About San Francisco

San Francisco is one of the major cultural and financial centers in Northern California. Its long and colorful history includes influential events around colonization, the gold rush, the great fire, World War II, and civil rights movements, all of which still resonate in the modern city. San Francisco is a major destination for travelers from around the world to see landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Chinatown, Lombard Street, the cable cars, and Fisherman's Wharf and to experience the diverse cultures and eclectic mix of architecture the city presents. San Francisco has also become a major hub for tech start-ups.

Getting to San Francisco

Most visitors arrive by airplane to San Francisco International Airport (SFO), though some travelers may arrive to Oakland International Airport (OAK). The easiest way to get to the conference hotel from SFO or OAK is the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), with stops just a few blocks from the Grand Hyatt San Francisco (Powell St or Montgomery St). A one-way ticket to take the BART from to the conference hotel costs $8.65 from SFO or $7.05 from OAK ($3 for the AirBART shuttle and $4.05 from Coliseum to Montgomery St).

Alternatively, a taxi to the conference hotel will cost approximately $40-50 plus tip, or a shared Super Shuttle van will cost $17 for each passenger.

In general, San Francisco and the Bay Area are well-connected by public transportation, and more information can be found at http://www.bart.gov or http://www.sfmta.com/.
